Ways to practice gratitude

There are different ways to practice gratitude and it’s important to find the one that matches our character and interests. For example, there are people that are morning persons and prefer a morning routine. And, there are others that prefer night to contemplate or meditate. Moreover, there are people who prefer verbal manifestations. So, it’s OK for them to devote a few minutes a day to manifest gratitude. Others may prefer to just close their eyes and think about the reasons they feel thankful in their life.

And, of course, there are people who prefer writing. So, a gratitude journal would be ideal for them. The writing style of this journal should be effortless, with a short list of the thing or things you feel gratitude for. But, if you find a daily gratitude journal overwhelming, you can do it weekly or monthly. Another idea is to keep gratitude quotes and the thoughts that create you. Lastly, if you are a creative person that loves drawing or painting, you can keep a gratitude art journal.

The importance is to be aware of what you appreciate in your life. And, don’t forget to express your gratitude not only to yourself but also to the people that love you, support you, help you, or make you feel good. It’s great to demonstrate your positive feelings for others. They will be happy and thankful, too!

Why gratitude journals are really helpful?

Journaling is a writing routine and a gratitude journal is keeping a diary with this specific subject. So, the aim of a gratitude journal is to write about all the things you have and appreciate in your present life. It’s a gradual process that can increase our self-awareness and mindfulness because we try to focus on positive things.

There are different kinds of positivity from healthy and helpful to toxic. And, practicing gratitude doesn’t mean forgetting, hiding, or neglecting everything bad that may happen to our life. It’s not about acting and lying to ourselves that everything is perfect and we don’t have problems. With gratitude, we try to keep our mindset in equilibrium. It means focusing on the good things rather than the bad.

So, with long-term practice, we may manage to reduce negative feelings like stress, dissatisfaction, and unhappiness. And, increase our self-knowledge, and inner balance, and make stronger connections with our beloved ones.

Practicing daily gratitude journal

Picasso said that art is a lie that enables us to realize the truth. And, this should be the aim of daily art practice, to realize the truth of our life. So, when we choose to commit ourselves to a gratitude art journal, we choose to focus on the positive moments of our life and on the people that love us. And, learn to take a moment out of your every day to visually express gratitude and make it part of our daily practice.

The beauty of art journals is their complexity. They combine the classic journal process of writing with inspiring art to decorate our words. Drawings, paintings, and hand-lettering can complete our pages in combination with the art tools we use. Watercolors, acrylics, and markers can help us finish our art pages. Moreover, we can use stickers and photos for a more multiplex result.

And, if you think that you need guidance and a little help in order to start a gratitude art journal, there is an amazing online class on Creativebug.com with the artist and Faber Castell creative Mou Saha. In this lesson, Mou Saha shares a prompt and technique each day for a month in order to create cohesive page spreads. So, after a full month of practice, making a gratitude art journal will become an effortless process like second nature, and you’ll be amazed by how your perception shifts.
