My 13 Fav Veronica Roth Quotes From Divergent Trilogy

This weekend I had the chance to watch the first movie from Divergent Series and I really enjoyed. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters,Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) and the sci-fi romance adventure plot. I usually like complicated scenarios that narrate the story in different levels and fields, like science, psychology, sociology, politics, action, romance, family relationships, while trying to interpret human nature and behavior.

Yet, in the 99,8% of the cases (I hope you will excuse this personal ratio), the books are always better than the movies based on novels. I don’t know why exactly this happens. Maybe because the book can light and explain every aspect. Or, maybe our fantasy is always better. Or, for many other reasons… So, in this post I gathered some of my favorite Veronica Roth quotes from the Divergent Trilogy: Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, Four: A Divergent Collection

I. “Take a person’s memories, and you change who they are.

― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

II. “One choice can transform you.”

― Veronica Roth, Divergent

III. “I know, without being told, that’s what love does, when it’s right—it makes you more than you were, more than you thought you could be. This is right.

― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

IV. “I used to think that when people fell in love, they just landed where they landed, and they had no choice in the matter afterward. And maybe that’s tue of beginnings, but it’s not true of this, now. I fell in love with him. But I don’t just stay with him by default as if there’s no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me.

― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

V. “Life damages us, every one. We can’t escape that damage. But we can be mended. We mend each other.

― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

VI. “But then I stopped allowing myself to dream, because it was more painful to long for things and never get them than to deal with whatever was in front of me.

― Veronica Roth, Four: A Divergent Collection

VII. “People I have discovered are layers of secrets. You think you know them, you think you understand them. But their motives are always hidden buried down deep in their hearts. You will never know them, but sometimes you decide to trust them.

― Veronica Roth, Divergent

VIII. “Forgiveness is just the continual pushing aside of bitter memories, until time dulls the hurt and the anger, and the wrong is forgotten.

― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

IX.  “I don’t want to be just one thing. I can’t be. I want to be brave, and I want to be selfless, intelligent, and honest and kind. Well, I’m still working on kind.

― Veronica Roth, Divergent

X. “No matter how smart, people usually see what they’re already looking for.

― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

XI. “She is well-practiced in the art of losing herself. I can’t say the same of myself.

― Veronica Roth, Divergent

XII. “Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.

― Veronica Roth, Divergent

XIII. “We both have war inside us. Sometimes it keeps us alive. Sometimes it threatens to destroy us.

― Veronica Roth, Insurgent

  1. I LOVE these quotes. I did like the movie, I wasn’t aware of the books! But I was in a bad way during that time. (hospital/surgeries) I do need to repost so I can always look back on these, going to my collection of blog posts on I tripped over a stone! I really enjoyed this one Joanna! ~Kim
