Last Updated on 15/03/2022
These “Travel stories” from the really small Ammouliani island in Mount Athos’ gulf describe smoothly and relaxing holidays, crystal blue waters, golden sand, and soft, chillout nights.
Day after day, day after day,
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Marinere
We stuck nor breath nor motion,
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.
Travel Stories from Ammouliani island
Alykes beach, Karagatsia, Megali Ammos, Ag. Georgios, Chora…
Karagatsia (Ftelies) is one of the superb beaches in Ammouliani island among Alykes and Megali Ammos. The word “Karagatsia” means elms and the beach were named so, due to the many elms that grow around. Karagatsia beach is on the west side of the island, about two km far from the main village (Chora). Its richness in fish made it famous for scuba diving. The beach is not much organized. There’s a canteen with drinks, snacks and sandwiches and a few deck chairs. You will love the clear waters, the beauty of the seabed, the wildness of the rocks in the hills, and the tranquility of the scenery.
You think there’s nothing new to see to 4.5 sq2/km of land, but a rainy day and a sunset, cloudy and full of colors, in Alykes beach come and offer you warm swimming in a tranquil sea, unforgettable moments and awesome photos.
At the end of the day, you realize that the beauties of this place are endless.
