Mother’s Day celebration

The celebration of Mother’s Day is not a recent fest or a trick to make people buy presents. There is evidence that people celebrated and honored the Mother from ancient Greek and Roman times. Ironically, Anna Jarvis, the woman who organized the first Mother’s Day in 1908, never had children of her own. Her mother’s death inspired her to take this action. That’s why it’s Mother’s Day and not Mothers’ Day.

Another interesting fact about Mother’s Day is the different dates of celebration around the world. The majority of countries celebrate International Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May. But in other countries, there are different dates of celebration according to their tradition and beliefs.

Moreover, if you like coastal decor like me, you can try to make pretty framed pebble art. Many of us collect pebbles from the beach every year that we can use. And, this project is simple but elegant, and it needs a few materials. Pebbles, hot glue, a piece of cardboard, a small shadow box frame, and glitter glues if you want to add a special effect. So, these are the steps to follow:

  1. Wash and dry the pebbles.
  2. For a more glamorous effect, paint them with glitter glue. I used silver and gold glitter for this work. But, it’s OK and beautiful to leave their natural color, just with a varnish spray.
  3. Spend a little time making shapes with the pebbles until you find the right topic.
  4. When you are sure about the theme, glue them on the cardboard with hot glue.
  5. Place your creation in a shadow box frame. You can see here how easily you can change a simple frame to a shadow box frame here.
