Discover Scandinavian Instagram influencers and accounts to follow in 2024 for your daily inspiration in Scandinavian decoration, aesthetics, and lifestyle.
One of my passions is the Scandinavian style in design and decoration. Natural materials, bright pastel colors, and comfort in furniture design. Scandi style made its first steps in the 1950s during the modern movement in Nordic design that took place in the Scandinavian countries. It could be described as the response to the climate conditions of this region (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark) where they have six months of winter and night. For the people living there, it is essential to create bright and practical interiors to defeat long darkness.
Moreover, the Scandinavian design tries to make choices that respect the environment and minimize pollution. Living near the North Pole, I guess it is easiest to become aware of the climate changes that are taking place on our planet through the years and decades due to global warming and pollution. So, this style combines natural textures not only in furniture but also in decorative elements. Thus, it transforms the simplest vases into gorgeous displays with just branches and brings outside nature inside.
For all these reasons, I have a deep preference for Scandi spaces although I live in opposite climate conditions of the Mediterranean area. Despite this contradiction, I see many similarities with the aesthetic of ancient Greek art and Cycladitic architecture and decoration.
