The maps in decoration have something exotic and cosmopolitan. They can serve easily many different styles in interior design from classic to contemporary since we can choose from a large variety of products to add to our space; antique, old, silver, colorful, monochrome, etc. Many of us gather free or cheap maps from our travels, or maybe have some double maps. This could be great material for some easy and beautiful DIY projects. Almost everything can be covered by a map; tin cans, vases, small decorative plates, side tables and dressers. Spray adhesive and decoupage glue are some of the options to make the attachment. Other beautiful and easy crafts with maps are tags, envelopes, garlands, gift wrapping, coasters and of course instant wall art decoration.
I never thought that it would be so easy to make a sunburst mirror and especially a mirror that would seem nice from very close. The inspiration came from Healthy, Wealthy and Diy’s blog and I decided to transform a beautiful handmade round mirror that the last three years was hidden in my closet because it didn’t match with our current furniture and home decoration. So, the first step was to paint it silver and the second step was to change it to a sunburst mirror in order to hang it over our fireplace. My main problem to this project was that I don’t use spray paint because I can’t handle their flow and I don’t like their smell. Fortunately, the result was very good despite the fact I used acrylics and the bamboo sticks for rays, which here in Greece are the synonym of our famous food “souvlaki”, made the project very affordable.
The word shabby alone doesn’t promise more than poor condition through long use or lack of care; but if one adds the word chic beside, it immediately takes a new meaning. That’s when images of cottage-style decor, soft and opulent, recycling old and antique, come to mind, to decorate large country houses, inspired by an old French decorating style.

Definitely, macrame isn’t something new for me. I remember myself around 16 years old to knit a whole backpack with rope. It was the year that my mother was teaching ways of macrame knittings to other women and when she was practicing at home, we were learning from her. But before this, back in late ’80, I remember my mother making macrame lampshades, pot hangers, and curtains. In our first home with my hubby, I had put one of this lampshades in the kitchen and it was really beautiful. I must find it again and show it to you in the future.
The previous year I had decided to make some Easter decoration since our son, three and a half years old, could participate more in the preparations. I wanted to make some eggs with black doodles and hang them on branches, but I didn’t find white eggs. So, I decided to paint the brown I bought with white chalk paint, keeping also some of their appearance for a more natural result. Chalk paint is something like obsession. Once you start painting, you can’t stop; you just want to paint everything. materials eggs needle, or thin hand drill syringe paintbrush white chalk … Continue reading DIY CRAFTS • Easter Chalk Paint Eggs
