Friendly to the skin and eco-friendly material

Another important factor in choosing a yoga mat is to be friendly to our skin. So, it’s important to be Latex-free in order to avoid any allergic reaction to our skin. Latex is the soft white substance that we extract under the bark of mature rubber trees. It’s a natural substance of rubber that we harvest from plants. On the contrary, plastic rubber is formed from a process using petroleum.

Natural latex

In that way, natural latex is considered safe yet there are people who are allergic to it. So, latex may cause them skin irritation like itching, inflammation, etc, skin rash, hives, or other severe symptoms. But, of course, this natural rubber is OK to use if we are not allergic to it.

Yoga mats size

Size is another important feature in choosing the perfect yoga mat. The width is usually 24 inches (60,96cm) for the majority of yoga mats. Their height may differ from 68 (172,72cm) to 72 (182,88cm) inches. It’s better to choose longer mats when we are tall in order to feel more comfortable during our yoga practice.

Yoga mats thickness

Also, thickness is something we should give attention to when buying a yoga mat. The mat must be thick enough to protect our joints but also offer us the appropriate stability. The most popular thickness is around 1/8” which means 4-5mm. And, there are thicker around 1/4” (5-6mm) that offer even more comfort to our yoga practice. Lastly, there are thinner yoga mats around 1/16” that are great to carry with you when traveling.

  • That one in your very first picture looks like the ones we own / use. Thicker than regular mats, durable and fairly easy to clean. They were a great investment. :)
