Discover 15 favorite and more inspiring James Joyce quotes in this post that is dedicated to his birthday on 2nd February.
James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was an Irish novelist, poet, and literary critic. His most important novel is Ulysses (1922). Its plot parallels the episodes of Homer’s Odyssey in a variety of literary styles, particularly stream of consciousness. So, this masterpiece talks about a unique day, June 16, 1904, in Dublin. A citizen of this town, Leopold Bloom, wakes up in the morning and leaves for his work. His social, professional, and emotional obligations delay his return until the early hours of the next day. And, this lateness of return is analyzed similarly to the archaic pattern. Leopold Bloom goes through a series of adventures similar to those of Odysseus.
Other well-known works are the short-story collection Dubliners (1914). Plus, the novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916) and Finnegans Wake (1939). He also wrote three books of poetry, a play, letters, and occasional journalism. He is of the most influential and important writers of the 20th century. Plus, he is considered an important contributor to the modernist avant-garde movement. Lastly, by far, my favorite quote is about mistakes from Ulysses. According to it, errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery.
