Advantages of using hanging planters

One of the great advantages of using hanging planters is the ability to display a variety of plant species. You can opt for lush green foliage that cascades down, vibrant flowering plants that add bursts of color, or even herbs and succulents that provide both aesthetic appeal and functional benefits.

In addition to their visual appeal, hanging planters offer practical benefits as well. They can help purify the air by absorbing toxins and releasing oxygen. Some plants, like spider plants and pothos, are known for their air-purifying properties, making them excellent choices for hanging planters. Plus, having plants around your home office can improve your mood and overall well-being.

How to make a hanging planter

Materials needed:

  • 1 terracotta or plastic plant pot
  • 1 thick and durable rope, about 4-5 feet long
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • S-hooks or a sturdy metal ring
  • Potting soil
  • Your choice of plants or flowers

Step-by-step instructions:

Start by measuring and cutting the rope to your desired length. Keep in mind that you’ll need enough length to hang the planter at your desired height.

Take the cut rope and fold it in half. This will create a loop at the top that will be used for hanging the planter.

Hold the folded end of the rope together and slip it through the metal ring or attach S-hooks to the loop. Make sure it is secure and won’t come loose when hanging.

Separate the loose ends of the rope and bring them up, crossing them over each other just above the plant pot. Adjust the length of the loose ends so that the plant pot hangs at the desired height.

Now, take the loose ends of the rope and thread them through the drainage holes at the bottom of the plant pot. Pull them through until you have an equal length of rope on each side of the pot.

Tie a tight knot just below the holes on each side of the pot to secure the rope in place.

Next, trim any excess rope below the knots to create a neat appearance.

Fill the pot with potting soil, leaving enough space for the roots of your chosen plants or flowers.

Carefully plant your desired vegetation, making sure to pack the soil firmly around the roots.

After planting, give your newly created hanging planter a gentle watering.

Finally, find a suitable spot to hang your planter. Make sure it is secure and can support the weight of the pot and plants.

And there you have it! Your very own handmade hanging planter with rope. Enjoy the beauty of your plants as they gracefully cascade from their elevated position. Happy gardening!
