Check out these beautiful DIY advent calendar ideas with handmade folders hanging on unexpected items and have fun waiting for Christmas. Happy December! It is the ideal time to make our first Christmas DIY, an Advent Calendar. A truly fun way to pass the days until Christmas with our 5-year-old son. Yesterday we saw the first snow of the year… yeah! And, after a short play with the snow, my son and I had a crafty mood. We put our pens, scissors, and chocolates on the desk to create our DIY Advent Calendar. It’s difficult to give guidelines to a strong-willed kid who believes his way is better. But we cooperated well by leaving space and choices, eating some of the chocolates, and making folders for more than 24 days!

DIY Advent Calendar • materials
- gift wrapping paper
- small wrapped chocolate bars
- scissors
- black marker
- confetti stars
- twine
- stapler – staple pins
- nails – hammer
- an old empty wooden frame that I have upcycled to a photo display with wire the previous year.
Steps for the project
- Make 24 simple small folders with gift wrapping paper. Of course, you can just buy them instead of making them.
- Decorate them with Christmas confetti stars.
- Write the numbers with a marker.
- Fill them with small wrapped chocolate bars, or with whatever you think is better, like candies and small toys.
- Hung the folders on the wire of the old frame. We have used stapler pins because with twine they seemed too messy. You can also use clothespins.
PS. The numbers 11 and 22 were written by my son!
