Beginner’s guide to Christian Romance novels
What is a Christian Romance novel?
In a nutshell, it’s a love story with a message of Christian faith, redemption, and/or salvation. Most Christian Romance novels paint a clean and pretty picture of two souls connecting through love and faith. Many of these novels display nothing more than simple kisses, while others don’t even get as far as kissing. Then there are the few, like mine, that express the passion and struggles with temptation while still remaining wholesome.
Who do you consider the best Christian Romance authors?
It’s hard to say who the best or favored Christian Romance authors are since there are so many. I can name a few I’ve encountered in my reading and throughout the writing Community, who along with being great writers are amazing people. Penny Zeller, Maria T. Henriksen, Belle Calhoune, Sharon K Connell, Vicky Whedbee, Melissa Koslin, Lynne Lanning, Jessica Patch, Allison Wells, Heidi Glick and so many more.
What are the best Christian Romance novels?
Again, it’s difficult to pick a best romance novel, but I do have a favorite sub-genre of Christian romance, which would be romantic suspense. Some great Christian Romantic Suspense books include: Not Again (by Maria T. Henriksen), Dangerous Beauty (by Melissa Koslin), and Redeeming Love (by Francine Rivers).
What would you say to those who believe that Christian Romance novels are bad?
A lot of the resistance I’ve heard from readers regarding Christian Romance books is that they are “cheesy” or “preachy.” From the cheesy opinion, I’ve certainly read one or two cheesy ones that come off not very realistic. At least, in my experience the realism of the characters did not resonate. With that said, there are many Christian romances that do depict reality very well.
So if you are not a fan of “cheesy” or “preachy” Christian romance and much is the reason you avoid the genre, maybe try reading a Christian romantic suspense book or an edgy or gritty Christian romance novel. There are some exceptional Christian books out there.
About the author Jessica Scachetti
What is the theme of your novels?
I’m an independently published author of edgy Christian Fiction. My books are gritty fictional romance stories containing sinful characters who make or have made poor choices. These characters do use profanity (lightly censored) and inflict violence. There are fairly mild depictions of abuse, assault (non-sexual), threats, revenge plotting, illness, gun violence, knife violence, and death. Despite each book’s use of flawed characters, violence, and profanity, each gritty representation showcases the immorality of those sinful actions and displays an overall message of redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ. Each of my books is part of a series of interconnected standalone novels/novellas.

Short bio and where to find her
I am a proud child of God, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. And, I was born and raised in the Midwest but moved to the East Coast when I was 18 where I’ve been ever since. I have adored writing stories since I was 10 years old, but only decided to publish my first book when I came up with the idea for “Wonder of Light.”
Thank you so much Jessica Scachetti for this interesting guide! We hope everyone will enjoy it as much as we did!
