Materials

  • aluminum craft wire
  • craft paper
  • aluminum foil tape
  • a star pattern
  • scissors
  • craft glue
  • large ribbon

Steps to follow

Draw a star shape on a piece of paper and cut. We will need sixteen paper stars because we will glue them in pairs.

Make a wreath with the wire using three or four-wire circles. The wires must look loose each other and not in a perfect circle.

Glue every pair of stars with the wire between them. We try to glue them each time in a different wire to make an elemental depth to our wreath and also at a different distance to make it look more artful.

To make it even more impressive, we cut the aluminum foil tape into smaller stars and glued them on the paper stars.

With a wire, I’ve made a small angel and I’ve attached it to the wreath. I shaped an 8 with the wire by turning it four times. Then, I continued to make an 8 horizontally for the wings and stabilize it in the middle where the neck would be. In the end, I turned the wire straight up to my head and turned it into a small circle four times to create the halo.

Finally, I used a piece of wide aluminum tape to hang it. I tried several ribbons before, silver or golden, but nothing seemed harmonical. Foil tape is combined perfectly with the whole composition. And, the Christmas wreath is ready!

Christmas wreath with fresh branches and wire

Another modern minimalistic way to use wire to make your own Christmas wreath is with fresh branches.

You can use a thicker yet still soft wire to make a big ring as the base of the wreath. And, then, you can tie fresh branches with a thinner wire. Plus, you can make different decor schemes.

For example, you can cover the whole circle with branches, only one side, or the bottom of the ring. Of course, you can use any kind of plants and leaves you like, not only pine and fir trees.

More ways to use wire in Christmas wreaths

Moreover, if you love traditional decorations and Christmas wreaths, wire is still a necessary material to make your own.

For example, this soft wire will help attach the branches invisibly to the material you’ve as a round base. And, you can use it for the ornaments that will decorate your wreath.

Especially, for pine cones, cinnamon sticks, and dry orange slices, you can attach them to the branches so stably with wire. I also use this trick to decorate our Christmas tree with them.
