The difficult in style is to find and define it, I think.
From my experience, I see two kinds of people around us. There are those who choose (or accept?) their style very early and stay loyal to this image, by avoiding big changes. Either due to their deep self-knowledge and self-acceptance or their tendency to preserve, they know their style from their beginning.
And, there are those who dare to change their style constantly and profoundly. They experience extreme makeovers by changing their hair color and hair cut, their clothes style, and other elements of their appearance, like eyeglasses and weight. In the end of this butterfly changing process, they discover self-knowledge and their unique style, and the ability to answer the pros and cons of their choices.
Is it style a personal journey to self-awareness? I guess it is and here, I gathered my ten favorite and inspiring quotes about style.
I “Fashion changes, but style endures.” Coco Chanel
II “Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn” Orson Welles
III “Create your own style… let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” Anna Wintour
IV “To achieve style, begin by affecting none.” E.B. White, The Elements of Style
V “Fashion you can buy, but style you possess.” Iris Apfel
VI “Your image is your brand and you have only one opportunity to make that first impression. Choose to make a positive first impression.” Cindy Ann Peterson, My Style, My Way: Top Experts Reveal How to Create Yours Today
VII “Style means no shield at all. Style means no front at all. Style means ultimate naturalness. Style means one man alone with billions of men about.” Charles Bukowski, Portions from a Wine-Stained Notebook: Uncollected Stories and Essays, 1944-1990
VIII “A wise friend once told me, ‘Don’t wear what fashion designers tell you to wear. Wear what _they_ wear.’ His point being that most designers, no matter what they throw onto the runway, favor simple, flattering pieces for themselves.” Tina Fey, Bossypants
IX “What is style but a form of silent speech? When I put together an outfit to wear, I am putting together chapters of a story that needs to tell itself to the world in merely a minute! When I choose an outfit to wear, I am choosing a speech, a certain flow of mind-to-skin that is important to be understood. Style is the sentiment that I make without needing to speak to anyone and it’s also an internal conversation that I make with myself throughout the day, I share those intimate words every time I look into the mirror or every time I look at my photographs.” C. JoyBell C.
X “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.” Oscar de la Renta
I hope you will find these quotes inspiring, too! How easily did you define your style? I’m definitely in the second category after making all the possible changes with my appearance. Wish you all a beautiful day …xoxo!!!
