Ana Maria Edulescu is a very talented, full time artist from Romania, and it is so great to be for a second time the “Artist of the Week”, as she is the first place winner in the “Artist of the Week XIX The Yellow contest” with her gorgeous painting “Abstract Santorini – Oia Before Sunset“.
In her wonderful portfolio, one can find mostly oils on stretched canvases and a big variety of themes, from flowers, cities, animals and birds, to abstract expressionist works. “Abstract Santorini – Oia Before Sunset” is from her series “Greece”. In 2010, Ana Maria had spent her summer vacation in Santorini and definitively fell in love of it. Santorini, this small greek island in the southern Aegean sea, is a famous touristic destination, and well-known for its beautiful architecture and distinctive natural environment due to its volcano. That’s why the sunset in this island is a special event. Every evening hordes of people are searching a place to seat, just to watch the sun that sinks in the blue Aegean Sea and paints with its light the white cycladic houses. In this award-winning painting, as in many others, Ana Maria tries to capture successfully the bright summer light and the minimalistic cycladic architecture with an abstract expressionist mood. Vibrancy in colors and simplicity in forms and textures are the tools that she uses to make another wonderful piece of art and interpret this well-known scene of Oia sunset with her personal artistic vision. The result is so unique and stunning like the beautiful event it depicts.
